The Owen County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is pleased to announce that applications are currently being accepted for cost-share funding for conservation practices in the Mill Creek watershed in northern Owen County. The funding is provided by a $75,000 Clean Water Indiana grant administered by the Hendricks County SWCD.
Funding will be available for cover crops, no-till equipment modifications, and a $250 incentive to select landowners for participating in a three-year economics/tillage system survey. Since the grant is split between four counties, Owen County will receive $5,625 each year for cost-share (not including survey incentives). Cover crops will be cost-shared at a flat rate of $20/acre for a maximum of 50 acres, and priority will be given to producers who have never used this practice before. No-till equipment modifications will be cost-shared at a maximum rate of 75%, or up to $2,500 per producer. A few examples of no-till equipment modifications include: putting starter fertilizer on the planter (not popup), closing wheels, row cleaners, and no-till coulters.
If you are interested in any of these opportunities for 2015, please contact Kelsey at the Owen County SWCD to see if you qualify. Please submit 2015 applications by April 1st to the Owen County SWCD to ensure priority ranking. Applications received after this date will be ranked lower, or may have to be considered for funding in 2016. If you have any questions or would like more information, please stop by our office located at 743 E Franklin St. Suite C in Spencer, or call Kelsey at 812-829-2605.
